When Can You Use Your Appliances?

ID: Background kitchen; a person with short hair, eyeglasses and short sleeves green button-down shirt next to the microwave showing the LED display of the clock.

The LED display of the appliance is still on. Even if an appliance is not used during on-peak and off-peak hours, it is still plugged in and consuming some energy.

Many appliances such as coffeemaker and microwave are always left plugged in. The LED display of the appliance is still on. Even if an appliance is not used during on-peak and off-peak hours, it is still plugged in and consuming some energy. If you can, you should unplug these appliances to conserve energy.

Action: A person unplug the microwave in the kitchen.

Action: A person wash, rinse and place the dishes in the rack in the sink.

Many of you may have dishwashers at home, which require using electricity. To conserve energy, you can place your dirty dishes in your dishwasher and wait until after 9 pm to turn it on.

Action: A person put the towels in the washing machine at the laundromat.

As you can see, I am at the laundromat  to wash my clothes. It applies to your washing machine and dryer at home, as well. It relies on electricity. If you want to manage your electric bill, you can wash your clothes before 4pm or after 9pm. The same goes if you’re at a laundromat: try to choose off-peak hours to help the environment.
